Capricorn (Dec 22 – Jan 20)
Aah, the consistent, ever-popular Capricorn. The kid who seems like an old soul, perfectly happy in the company of older folks, especially mom and dad. Stable, loyal and determined, the Capricorn child needs plenty of consistency and will be pretty unhappy when you make any changes to the routine or plan. Little Caps are very responsible and tend towards perfectionism, so make sure you’re clear about rules, and always encourage them keep trying if they don’t get something right the first time or two.
Aquarius (Jan 21 – Feb 19)
You officially parent the rebel of the zodiac. Aquarians are well-known for their independence and dislike of authority. They like their space (physically and emotionally) and tend to follow their own path, in their own way. Our tip is to enjoy the show – your quirky Aquarian will be generous, stand up for the underdog, and excel at sports that demand teamwork. If you can channel that rebellion, you’re in for quite an amazing ride!
Pisces (Feb 20 – Mar 20)
Emotional, sensitive and compassionate – that’s your little Pisces. A soul like this will need plenty of nurturing, but also clearly communicated rules and boundaries. Pisces are highly creative and imaginative, so be sure to provide plenty of outlets – be it art supplies at home or signing them up for the local drama club. And know that while Pisces may seem dreamy, but they’re definitely taking everything in.
Aries (Mar 21 – Apr 20)
If like us, you parent an Aries, you’ve no doubt already made a few trips to the emergency room. Energetic, independent Aries dives headfirst into life with terrific determination. Probably kind of bossy as kids, they’re natural leaders who need encouragement when things don’t go to plan, and plenty of applause when they do. Your little Aries will love attention, but they’ll also seek out time alone – make sure they have that physical space to retreat to.
Taurus (Apr 21 – May 21)
If you thought Capricorn was stubborn, you haven’t yet crossed paths with a Taurus. Notoriously set in their ways, the little Taurus can be quite inflexible, mostly because they crave stability and routine. Thoughtful and a lover of all physical pleasures (especially food!), your little Taurus will likely be musical and will definitely enjoy nature, so make them happy by going to the park often or inviting them to help in the garden.
Gemini (May 22 – Jun 21)
Big personalities, funny and communicative, Gemini kids have all the stories. They’re interested in everything, often switching passions so rapidly that they leave a whole bunch of unfinished projects behind them. This curiosity keeps them from getting bored though, and dynamic Gemini will benefit tremendously if you can channel that creativity – musical instruments, chemistry sets, drama classes, even a new language. They respond well to logic, so “Because I told you so” is just not going to fly with them!
Cancer (Jun 22 – Jul 22)
Thanks goodness Cancer kiddos have that figurative shell, because they’re naturally sensitive and will retreat when hurt. Of course their soft hearts are made of gold, and Cancer children are caring and considerate. Family-oriented Cancer is especially strongly affected by maternal energy and needs nurturing and to nurture, so a pet or stuffed animal is a great call. Let them decorate their “shell” (bedroom) as they want, and let them retreat to it often.
Leo (Jul 23 – Aug 22)
Little Leos love to be number one at everything they do, so when things don’t quite go according to plan, they’ll need plenty of positive reinforcement. Proud, opinionated and a little ego-driven, your Leo will be a happy, smiley kiddo… until that temper tantrum happens. Super-responsible, they’ll adore having a pet to take care of, and will need plenty of outlets to get all of their energy out of their system, be it dance, gymnastics, sports, even a dress-up box of costumes at home.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 23)
Known as the universe’s little helpers, Virgo children are keen to do whatever they can to help you keep an orderly and peaceful home. But they can be hard on themselves as they try to achieve perfection, so be generous with positive reinforcement that they’re doing a great job. They enjoy working with their hands, so get them plenty of puzzles, craft supplies, model kits and building blocks. And be prepared – your Virgo is all about communication and may begin speaking long before their peers.
Libra (Sept. 24-Oct. 23)
With the scales as their sign, kiddie Librans are very concerned with justice and keeping the peace. They’re natural mediators, extremely charming and will need lots of affection from their favorite grown-ups. Your Virgo adores music, special celebrations and all things beautiful – let them decorate their own bedroom, and keep them well-supplied with coloring books, model cars and dress-up dolls.
Scorpio (Oct 24 – Nov 22)
Scorpios – that most enigmatic of the signs – are great at keeping secrets, which may be problematic when you’re the parent trying to find out who broke the iPad. With their natural intuition and strong instincts, they have the ability to read people and situations, and are pretty bold and fearless. Your little Scorpio will love deeply and keep you entertained with their talent and attitude. They are sensitive, and will lean towards introversion, so don’t force them into team sports or playgroups if they protest.
Sagittarius (Nov 23 – Dec 21)
Exuberant, optimistic Sagittarius is an absolute gift. Your Sag will be so sure that everything will turn out alright… and even when it doesn’t, she’ll bounce right back soon after. Independent Sag will be super-keen on travel and being surrounded by friends, so give them the space to do their own thing. Sign them up for camp, sports, activity clubs, and fill the house with books, because they just love learning.
